It has been about 5 or 6 years since we've been to Brownlee to camp. This time we were able to be quite comfortable in our trailer!

During the heat of the day, the kids tried to cool off by the water.

It's always nice to see the kids play together and get along!

It was kind of hard to swim in because the whole area was extremely rocky!

The cooler mornings and evenings we just focused on fishing! We fished in this little cove most of the time because it was right by our campsite. We caught over a dozen small mouth bass but they all were just a bit too small for us to be allowed to keep them.

We came close to tragedy: We went fishing on the other side of the dam and the kids yelled, "We see a baby snake!" Adrian went to check it out and all the kids were closely hunched over looking down at a baby rattle snake all coiled and shaking it tail! He yelled for them to get back and we stayed clear of that area. I guess "baby" rattle snakes are extremely dangerous because they don't regulate their venom- they just use it all which could be deadly on a kid miles away from any hospital! We counted our blessings that day.

We love trying "camping" food including popcorn on the stove!

Since it was just our family the kids were forced to find entertainment from each other. Here they took turns going outside the trailer and dancing and singing for each other.

Lots of snuggling under the tons of blankets/sleeping bags we brought. Austin was playing "peek-a-boo" since he knew I was trying to take a picture of him.

It was extremely hot in the middle of the day, so much of that time was spent in the air conditioned trailer reading, playing games or eating!

Even though we couldn't keep the bass, there was no limit on keeping crappie! I've always concidered them "throw back" fish until we met some camping neighbors that changed all that! They were from Missouri and they taught us how to easily cut the meat without getting bones and then just dip it in corn meal and fry it up! It was surprisingly fabulous- sturdy meat and not too "fishy" tasting! They had a boat and would catch them by the hundreds. They are small fish so you need a "mess" of them to make a meal. Adrian helped them fillet them up each night and in return they gave us a bag or two of meat!

Brownlee is a great place to fish and relax. I think next time we go we'll aim for spring or fall when it's not so hot!
